The leading Austrian research center Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) has opened its new headquarters in Graz. SAL also attracts numerous international researchers to Austria, such as Bruno Clerckx. The Belgian citizen is a specialist in wireless communication and signal processing and works as a professor of electrical engineering and electronics at Imperial College London. In the course of his career, he has worked at universities in South Korea, the USA, France and Great Britain. From 2006 to 2011, Clerckx held various research positions at the South Korean electronics group Samsung and holds more than 70 patents.
By 2030, 250 people are expected to be employed at the site. Silicon Austria Labs has three facilities in Austria, namely in Linz, Villach and the headquarters in Graz. The Center for Microelectronics in Austria already employs more than 600 people. The new building will include laboratories for power electronics and dependable electronics-based systems (Dependable EBS). The newly created validation laboratory has sensors to measure environmental influences such as temperature, mechanical vibrations and humidity. In addition to its own research, SAL also offers industrial partners the opportunity to carry out their tests on electronic components there.
